HOW DRU CATCH SEES IT
The Governor Who Supports You - But Not Your Team
There is a particular kind of Nigerian political genius that can only be described as creative loyalty. Governor Adeleke has publicly pledged to deliver over 1.5 million votes for Bola Tinubu's presidential re-election while simultaneously promising to fight Tinubu's own party - the APC - in every single legislative seat in Osun State. On the same day. In the same post. With a straight face.
Read the Fine Print on That Rainbow
The coalition he announced - a rainbow of Accord Party, APC and PDP working together - is remarkable not for its ambition but for its surgical scope. Adeleke essentially told Tinubu's APC allies: 'Your president? Love him. Your legislative candidates? See you in the trenches.' The presidential election is the handshake. The legislative elections are the boxing match. And apparently this is just Tuesday in Osun politics.
Sliced Thin Enough to Paper Over Anything
What makes this genuinely special is that Adeleke seems to expect no one will notice - or, more likely, he knows everyone will notice and doesn't care. Nigerian coalition politics runs on transactional loyalty sliced thin enough to paper over any contradiction, and Adeleke has demonstrated he can slice with surgical precision. Support Tinubu for the big seat, undercut his party downticket, collect whatever goodwill the federal government extends on the local government crisis he also mentioned - and call it a 'rainbow coalition.' The bullshit is colorful, at least.

Should Nigerian voters hold governors accountable when they publicly back a presidential candidate while opposing that candidate's party in legislative elections - or is this just standard coalition politics?
